On Thursday, July 24, 2014, the Cannonball Foundation made its debut in the Greater Trenton area by holding its first ever event in the Garden State, a recruiting-focused college admissions and leadership training seminar at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ. High school baseball and softball players from the area and neighboring counties, along with their parents, were invited to attend and take part in interactive workshops presented by leading professionals from up and down the East Coast.
Speakers in attendance included Hans Hanson, a national college advisor; Stan Exeter, head baseball coach at Ursinus University; Craig Hanson, head baseball coach at Dickinson College; Kevin Wilson, a professional hitting coach; and Rich Prado, founder of Play In School.
The speakers covered a range of topics including: succeeding in college recruiting and admissions, selecting the right college match, and training the head and heart to lead in the game of baseball and the game of life.
Ryan, a student-athlete from Moorestown, NJ, attended the seminar with his parents. He remarked that the intimate atmosphere was one great feature of the seminar, noting that he “felt really comfortable asking questions and speaking with each one of the coaches.”
The event was the first of many that the Cannonball Foundation will host in the Greater Trenton area. In the following months, the foundation plans on offering more opportunities for academic support, college counseling, competitive play, and mentoring to shape area student-athletes as lifelong learners and leaders.
